Organizations
Stanford Research Institute
1972
Nonprofit research institute (renamed SRI International in 1977) that hosted the CIA/DIA-funded remote-viewing program from 1972 to 1995, initially seeded by private funding from the Institute of Noetic Sciences and the Parapsychology Foundation. Physicist Edwin May also led research there alongside Puthoff and Targ. Beyond psi, SRI was a pillar of the government research complex - the ARPANET's second node (1969) and home to Douglas Engelbart's DARPA-funded Augmentation Research Center. Its remote-viewing work began as the CIA's Project SCANATE and was monitored by CIA officers including Kit Green. Targ's 2019 review reports experimental series significant at four standard deviations with effect sizes over 0.6, and accuracy said to be independent of distance (to ~10,000 km) and time (days into the future) — claims disputed by mainstream science.
