Jim Simons

1964–2024

Mathematician (Chern-Simons theory) and Cold-War NSA/IDA codebreaker who left over Vietnam, chaired Stony Brook math, then founded the Renaissance Technologies hedge fund (Medallion Fund) and, in 1994, the Simons Foundation - the science-philanthropy vehicle that in 2021 installed David Spergel, NASA's UAP-study chair, as its president. Died 2024.
