Gerald Ford

1966–2006

38th U.S. President; as House Minority Leader in March 1966, publicly called the Air Force's "swamp gas" explanation for Michigan UFO sightings - given by consultant J. Allen Hynek - "flippant," and formally wrote to House committee chairmen demanding congressional hearings. His pressure campaign led directly to the Air Force funding the University of Colorado's independent UFO study (the Condon Committee) later that year.
