Edgar Mitchell

1971–2016

Apollo 14 astronaut and sixth person to walk on the Moon. After a profound experience returning to Earth in 1971, he resigned from NASA to found the Institute of Noetic Sciences and became a public advocate for both consciousness research and UFO disclosure, saying he was "convinced enough of the reality of the ET presence" to state so publicly. Also served on the Science Advisory Board of Robert Bigelow's NIDS, documented in surviving 1996 correspondence between them.
