BAASS

Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies - the contractor that carried out the Pentagon's AAWSAP/AATIP-era research.

In the UAP recordRuled into the unidentified-phenomena thread on 2 September 2026 from this entity's own name and role text, which contain: "aatip". An editorial classification of what thread this entity belongs to; it rests on no page and does not claim to. Neighbours were not used - see apply-subjects-2026-09-02.mjs for why.

Also named in documents we hold

This entity's name appears in the 2 documents below. That is the entire claim. Nothing here is evidence for anything on this map, no connection rests on it, and it says nothing about what the document is about. It is a place to look next.

The release calls it “AAWSAP Solicitation and Original Order, September 22, 2008”. The file name in the Release 06 bundle and the war.gov listing. The file itself is a Standard Form 1449 contract, HHM402-08-C-0072, with its schedule and clauses. It is not adopted as a title here.

Caveat The page names the Virginia Contracting Activity at Bolling AFB as the issuing office, and payment is made by the NSA Finance and Accounting Office. That the Virginia Contracting Activity is DIA's rests on its address and codes and on the program's own statement of objectives (dow-uap-d110), which names DIA's Acquisition Support Division - not on a sentence on this page.

    What the document actually says
The contract for this DIA-managed program was awarded to a private sector organization.
Why we refused it. AARO WILL NOT NAME THE CONTRACTOR. "A private sector organization" is as far as it goes, here and at printed 34 where it describes "a property owned by the private sector organization". Everyone involved knows which company is meant; this document does not say so, and supplying the name ourselves would be us writing the source rather than reading it. This is the anonymisation caution on this record doing its job.

2 corrections to this record

Generated from the record, not written by hand. Every change keeps what the map used to say, because a correction nobody can see is indistinguishable from never having been wrong.

BAASS → Robert Bigelow
founded
its owner, described at the 2025 hearing as "the DIA's contractor"
"Founded" is not on the page. Printed 11 says "Bigelow's company, BAASS" and "the DIA's contractor, Robert Bigelow of Las Vegas" - possession and a contracting relationship, not a founding.
BAASS → Defense Intelligence Agency
awarded it the 2008 AAWSAP contract
received George Knapp's Soviet UFO files through it, under the AAWSAP program
The cited page does not say it. Printed 34 reads "Second, I gave all of that material to the DIA through BAASS, the AAWSAP program." - a witness saying where he sent his files, not a statement that DIA awarded BAASS anything, and it names no year. THE CAVEAT REMOVED HERE WAS WORSE THAN THE CLAIM: reviewed 2026-08-21, it read "The award is in the testimony; only the 2008 DATE is not. Date is a modifier." The award is not in the testimony either, so the caveat scoped away a smaller problem than the one present and read as diligence already done. The award and its 2008 date leave this project's voice until a document for them is held.

Notes on this record

The date

CORRECTED 2026-09-21. Was 2008-01-01 to 2010-01-01, both placeholders, recorded with no basis. The dates are now the contract's: award 22 September 2008 (dow-uap-d111, PDF p. 1, "AWARD/EFFECTIVE DATE SEP 22, 2008") and the last period of performance written against the money, 21 December 2010 (PDF p. 4). This node is on the map because of that contract, so its dates are the contract's dates. The company's own founding and dissolution are not recorded here.

The end date, and how it was established

dow-uap-d111, PDF p. 4, read as an image 2026-09-21: the option-year line items of contract HHM402-08-C-0072 carry "Period of Performance: 09/22/2009 to 12/21/2010". This is the end of the CONTRACT, not of the company.
