James Forrestal

1947–1949

First U.S. Secretary of Defense; named in the disputed 1984 MJ-12 documents as the group's supposed co-founder alongside Truman. Dismissed by Truman in March 1949 amid deteriorating mental health, he died in an apparent suicide two months later - an event conspiracy literature has long linked to the UFO secrecy narrative without corroborating evidence. Before government service, spent over two decades at Wall Street investment bank Dillon, Read & Co., becoming its president in 1938.
