Eugene Wigner

1943–1995

Nobel Prize-winning Hungarian-American physicist and Manhattan Project scientist (he designed the plutonium-production reactors) - one of "the Martians," the cohort of Hungarian emigres alongside von Neumann, Teller, Szilard and von Karman. He extended von Neumann's quantum-measurement formalism into the explicit claim that consciousness collapses the wave function, and posed the "Wigner's friend" paradox - the physics most often cited by those who argue mind is fundamental to reality.
